USE YOUR KEYBOARD AS MOUSE

This is a seldom used Windows XP feature that is sure to come in handy (probably when you least suspect it). I’m referring to Mousekeys, which when activated allows you to navigate the mouse cursor using the arrow keys on your keyboard. This type of knowledge can definitely help you out if you are ever in a situation where the mouse is inoperable.



Here's wat is to be done....

On your Keyboard Press the following Keys at the same time:

Left SHIFT + ALT + NUM LOCK


Click ok, the Mousekeys will. Once the Mousekeys is running simply use the arrow keys located on your numeric keypad (8 is up, 2 is down, 4 is left, and 6 is right).

To move the cursor simply tap on the arrows in the numeric keypad (if you hold down one of the arrows, it will move the cursor faster).

You will probably notice that the cursor moves incredibly slow, so one other thing I do is, when I open Mousekeys, I go into the Settings and adjust the speed all the way up.

Here is what you need to know to navigate with Mousekeys:

• To move up, tap or hold down the 8 key on your numeric keypad

• To move down, tap or hold down the 2 key on your numeric keypad

• To move right, tap or hold down the 6 key on your numeric keypad

• To move left, tap or hold down the 4 key on your numeric keypad

• To Click on something, Hit the 5 key on your numeric keypad

• To double-click, press the plus sign (+) on your numeric keypad

• To right-click, press the minus sign (-) on your numeric keypad

• To drag something, move the cursor to the item you want to drag then press the Insert key. Then to release the item hit the Delete key. :)

Add "Open Command Prompt Here" in Windows Vista Context Menu

Geeks love to mess around with Command Prompt every now and then. So here we bring you a simple tip that will add "Open Command Prompt Here" to the Windows Vista right-click menu which will enable to launch command prompt directly from a folder you are currently browsing.


There are two ways to achieve this:

• Only when you need - Simply hold down the SHIFT key while right clicking a folder. You'll see the option "Open Command Prompt Here"

• Permanent- Follow this method if you want to bypass the above method and want the command prompt option permanently displayed. Open notepad and copy the following text to it (the text in green):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Save the file as cmdhere.reg on the desktop. Exit notepad and double-click this file. You will be asked for confirmation to modify the registry. Simply approve it and you should see the changes taking place immediately. Right clicking any folder will give you the option "Open Command Prompt Here"

Speed up IE7 by increasing simulteneous connections

When you connect to a website your computer establishes connections with the web server(s). One connection might be a graphics server, another connection may be an ad server and so on. Once the connection has received what it asked for it is disconnected and used for something else.


By default IE7 is set to only be able to open 2 or 4 connections at a time. If you have broadband and you use tabs in IE7 or you visit sites that use lots of connections this tweak will increase the speed of IE7 a little.

You can easily increase the number of simultaneous connections with the following trick.

Open notepad and paste the code below in it (code in green).

Save this file as fastnet.reg (or any other name, but make sure to give it a .reg extension) on your desktop. Exit notepad and doubleclick this file. The information in this file will merge with windows registry and will increase the number of simulteneous connections allowed in Internet Explorer.

This trick works with all versions of and above IE 5. Please be noted that this trick doesn't double the speed or something like that, but you will definitely notice better speed.

Disable Windows Defender in Vista

Even if Windows Defender is offered for free and it has decent protection features, some people might prefer other applications to secure their system from spyware and other threats. In this case there is no point in having two similar applications running at the same time, both of them consuming system resources. This is why disabling Windows Defender can be a good idea.

This is how you do it:

• Launch Windows Defender and go to Tools -> Options.

• Here you will find a lot of configuration options. Scroll down to the end of the list. You will find there a section called Administrator options. Deselect the Use Windows Defender box and press the Save button.

• If UAC is turned on, you will need to confirm that you want to continue with the change.
• Now you will receive a notification saying that "Windows Defender is turned off". Click on Close and you are done.

Disable File Delete Confirmation in Windows Vista

Every time you delete a file, Windows asks you "Are you sure you want to move this file to the Recycle Bin?" This is typically a good thing, to prevent you from deleting files by accident, but if you are trying to do some cleanup and need to delete a lot of files, you might not want to be prompted every single time.

There's a simple way to turn it off. Follow these steps:

• Just right-click on your Recycle Bin and choose Properties from the menu.

• Now you'll see the Trash Properties dialog, and notice the "Display delete confirmation dialog" at the bottom.
• Just uncheck the box, and close the dialog. No more confirmations!

Report: Internet Outages Could Occur By 2010 As Capacity Stalls

Booming demand for Internet services combined with insufficient infrastructure investment could leave the Web vulnerable to brown outs within three years, a study released Tuesday predicted


Nemertes Research said Internet providers need to invest from $42 billion to $55 billion -- or 60% to 70% more than current plans call for -- to stave off interruptions to the digital economy that could happen if the 'Net bogs down. "The next Google, YouTube, or Amazon might not arise" if the situation isn't fixed, Nemertes said.


The problem, the group said, is that bandwidth usage is outpacing infrastructure build outs. While core fiber and switching/routing technology "will scale nicely," Internet access resources could soon be overwhelmed in three to five years, Nemertes said.

The trouble could be particularly acute in North America, the researchers said.

"Rather like osteoporosis, the underinvestment in infrastructure will painlessly and invisibly leach competitiveness out of the economy," said Nemertes.

Nemertes conceded that its study, in many ways, represents a best guess at what's happening with the Web. "The Internet is almost opaque to serious researchers, even those with the necessary technical skills, integrity and desire," said the group.

That's because commercial Internet providers closely guard information about usage and technology roadmaps. "Carriers and content providers refuse to reveal their inner workings," said Nemertes, adding that it's understandable that service providers are reluctant to reveal data that might undermine their competitiveness or compromise user privacy.

Nonetheless, "we conclude by urging content and service providers to cooperate with researchers in sharing data," said the study's authors. Nemertes also said Congress should consider tax credits to spur Internet providers to add more broadband capacity.

For instance say I want to send the System Internals for Windows application to a co-worker. Rename the file from SIW.EXE to SIW.EXX



When renaming the file you will get a warning message just click yes.



This should allow the file to go through then the recipient of the file can rename it back to SIW.EXE and launch the application. Some filters are more smart than others. Another thing way is to zip the file and rename it to SIW.ZI_ Of course always verify the person sending you the file is reputable and never open attachments you were not expecting. Want to hide drives with sensitive material on them from prying eyes? You can prevent any or all disk drives from being displayed in My Computer and Explorer.
It takes some Registry tweaks, which can be tricky. Check instructions at www.WE-Compute.com/registry.html if you are new to Registry editing.
In the Registry navigate to HKEY__USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Right-click on Explorer and choose New and DWORD value. In the pane on the right, rename the new value NoDrives and double-click on it to open the Edit DWORD Value box. Click the Decimal option to select it, instead of the Hexidecimal option.
Now for the complicated part. To hide a drive or drives, a number that corresponds to the drive(s) must be entered. Enter the value listed below for the drive. If multiple drives are to be hidden, add the numbers for those drives together. For example, hiding drives D and E requires a value of 24, because you are adding the value for D (8) to the value for E (16), which equals 24.

Show your name in the system clock!!!

This trick will put your name or any text up to 12 characters long in the system clock. There is nothing special in this trick. It is just to show off to your friends that you are elite.

Here is how to do it.
1. Go to Control Panel and double click on Regional and Language Options.
2. Click on Customize and go to Time tab.

3. To put your name, just click on the scroll down text and rename it with anything you want. Like you see in the above image, I put “Cypher” beside the AM and PM.
4. Finally, click Ok and Ok to accept the changes.
Just incase you want to get back to the original setting, just pick the AM and PM from the drop down list. Using windows vista? Don’t worry, this trick is also works in Windows Vista.

Ban ShutDown:A trick to Play on Lamers

This is a neat trick you can play on that lamer that has a huge ego, in this section I teach you, how to disable the Shut Down option in the Shut Down Dialog Box. This trick involves editing the registry, so please make backups. Launch regedit.exe and go to :HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ExplorerIn the right pane look for the NoClose Key. If it is not already there then create it by right clicking in the right pane and selecting New > String Value.(Name it NoCloseKey ) Now once you see the NoCloseKey in the right pane, right click on it and select Modify. Then Type 1 in the Value Data Box.Doing the above on a Win98 system disables the Shut Down option in the Shut Down Dialog Box. But on a Win95 machine if the value of NoCloseKey is set to 1 then click on the Start > Shut Down button displays the following error message:This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.You can enable the shut down option by changing the value of NoCloseKey to 0 or simply deleting the particular entry i.e. deleting NoCloseKey.Instead of performing the above difficult to remember process, simply save the following with an extension of .reg and add it's contents to the registry by double clicking on it.REGEDIT4[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"NoClose"="1"

Administrator password can be broken by replacing sam file in system32\config by the sam file in repair folder of windows.it can be easily done on a machine with dual operating systems, simply log on to os other then the one whoes password is to be crackedthe way is exactly same as written abovebut if there is a single os on a machine then there is only one way i.e to use ms dos start up disk or some other boot disk and replace the sam file in config folder with the one in repair foldernote:- this method works only if hard drive is FAT32 formatted because NTFS drive does'nt take boot from Ms DOSThis way you can remove the old administratOr password as if the windows is newly installed and the password was'nt set
